This SMU FM Radio Opportunity is voluntary and lasts for 12 months.
Requirements
SMU students and community members can apply. You should have:
- A clear and engaging speaking voice (for Presenters & News Readers)
- Ability to operate radio equipment during a live show – will be tested
- Good communication and on-air presentation skills
- Technical understanding of studio operations (for Technical Crew)
- Strong music knowledge and playlist skills (for Music Compiler)
- Reliability, professionalism, and ability to follow the station schedule
Skills & Qualities Needed for SMU FM Radio Opportunity
- Confidence speaking to an audience
- Creativity and passion for media
- Good listening and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn technical or on-air responsibilities
- Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines
What to Submit

Presenters & News Readers
- A 2-minute audio or video demo showing your presenting or news-reading ability
Technical Crew
Submit:
- A 2-minute video showing how you set up or operate radio/audio equipment
- A 1–2 minute audio mix (preferably jingles) you created
- A portfolio (PDF or screenshots) showing your technical work, such as:
- Studio setup
- Audio editing
- Produced shows or podcasts
- Equipment configuration
(Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical technical assessment.)
Music Compiler
Submit:
- A sample curated playlist (15–20 songs) with a short explanation of the theme, sequencing, and target audience
- A short audio mix demonstrating genre range and flow
- A 1-page motivation explaining your understanding of audiences, music programming, and playlist creation
