Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) is offering the Air Traffic Services Bursary Trainee Programme. This programme gives unemployed South African youth the chance to learn about air traffic services and gain hands-on experience at the Aviation Training Academy. You will get training, guidance from mentors, and work on real air traffic operations. The programme is a fixed-term contract. Successful bursars will develop skills needed for a career in aviation. You must be ready to relocate anywhere in South Africa for training and placement.

Bursary Streams Available

Applicants can apply for one of the following Air Traffic Services bursary streams:

  1. Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
  2. Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
  3. Target Generating Officer (TGO)
  4. Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
  5. Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

Each stream is part of the trainee programme, providing structured learning and practical exposure.

Requirements

To be eligible for the Air Traffic Services Bursary Trainee Programme, candidates must:

  • Be a South African citizen with a valid ID
  • Be medically fit (required for ATSO stream)
  • Have a Matric certificate
  • Pass the following subjects:
    • Pure Mathematics: Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above
    • English: Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above
  • Attach Grade 12 results to the application
  • Be unemployed
  • Be willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa
  • Not have participated in a similar ATNS bursary programme before

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Air Traffic Services Bursary Trainee Programme, bursars will:
