Host Community Requirements

Preference is for applicants from the identified South Deep host communities. Applicants can qualify as a host-community candidate if they either:

  • Live in Bekkersdaal
  • Live in Zuurberkom
  • Live in Thusanang
  • Live in Hillshaven
  • Live in Westonaria
  • Live in Poortjie
  • Live in Simunye
  • Live in Kalbasfontein
  • Live in Jachtfontein
  • Successfully completed Grade 12/Matric at a school located within one of the listed host communities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 or equivalent N3 qualification with two languages passed
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a mining operation
  • Must be declared medically fit for the position and working environment
  • Must pass the required Heat Tolerance Screening test
  • Must successfully complete any additional assessments required to determine suitability

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all health and safety rules and regulations applicable to the mine.
  • Undergo technical training prescribed by MQA/DMRE.
  • Maintain consistent performance during technical evaluations.
  • Take responsibility for personal career development.
  • Participate in developmental discussions and seek feedback.
  • Engage with the HRD and technical oversight teams.
  • Follow company policies, employment conditions, and the code of conduct.
  • Promote teamwork and contribute effectively as a team member.
  • Apply safe working practices in accordance with prescribed standards and procedures.
  • Identify, report, and escalate safety, health, environmental, and risk-related conditions.
  • Participate in risk assessments with artisans.
  • Assist artisans with daily maintenance activities.
  • Handle, clean, and store tools safely.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in workshops, maintenance areas, and surrounding plant areas.
  • Report hazards or risks that could affect fellow employees.
  • Perform standby duties when required.
