Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Engineering Learnerships, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
  • Full N2 qualifications with all four required subjects:
    • Engineering Mathematics.
    • Engineering Science.
    • N2 Rigging Trade Theory.
    • Engineering Drawing.
  • Applicants must be residents of one of the South Deep host communities.
  • Must be declared medically fit for the position and working environment.
  • Must pass the required Heat Tolerance Screening test.
  • Must be willing to undergo other assessments required to determine suitability for employment.
  • All relevant certificates must be uploaded with the online application.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As part of the Engineering Learnerships, learners will:

  • Undergo technical training prescribed by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA).
  • Complete short courses required by the mine during the learnership.
  • Participate in practical work-based training.
  • Maintain consistent performance throughout the programme.
  • Participate in developmental discussions.
  • Seek feedback to support personal and professional development.
  • Follow the company’s conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct.
  • Comply with all applicable mine health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Promote teamwork and contribute effectively as a team member.
  • Wear all prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) at the mine and training centre.
  • Follow the values of South Deep Gold Mine, including safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation and collaborative delivery.
