Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the Casual Cashier Jobs role is to support customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a world-class shopping experience. The cashier is responsible for recording customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system in line with company policies and standard operating procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants applying for Casual Cashier Jobs must meet the following essential requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum of 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Sound numerical skills
- Strong command of the English language
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Key Responsibilities
The duties associated with Casual Cashier Jobs include, but are not limited to:
- Adhering to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
- Establishing professional relationships with customers
- Reporting customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Adhering to the customer turnover hourly rate
- Being aware of current sales and promotions
- Ensuring colleagues and customers are not exposed to risk
- Applying Dis-Chem 5-star communication principles
- Managing cash flow responsibly
- Ensuring line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by a supervisor
- Exchanging merchandise and accepting authorised returns
- Processing all customer purchases and payments
- Handling cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other payment methods accepted by Dis-Chem
- Processing loyalty cards and accelerator partner cards
- Ensuring cash is placed in the drop safe according to SOPs
- Protecting personal till codes and passwords
- Ensuring all outgoing stock, items, and scripts are scanned and paid for
- Keeping all money safe and secure in the till
- Handling daily takings confidentially
- Identifying and reporting suspicious behaviour
- Addressing customer queries regarding store merchandise
- Adhering to Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures
