Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Operator Warehouse Shunter Jobs, applicants should have:

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate or 5 years of proven work experience with acceptable numeracy and literacy levels.
  • Ability to use barcode scanners accurately when picking and storing stock.
  • Ability to understand SAP bin and storage locations.
  • Product knowledge of Macsteel products such as valves, pipes, fittings, flanges and structural steel.
  • Ability to learn and understand new products.
  • Ability to use measuring equipment.
  • Valid crane, forklift and side loader licences.
  • Valid Code 10/14 driver’s licence, which is essential.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Receiving incoming materials and physically checking deliveries.
  • Confirming received items against supplier delivery notes.
  • Checking quantities, sizes and quality of materials received.
  • Storing materials in the correct allocated areas.
  • Marking, packing and identifying products using labels, barcodes and colour coding.
  • Labelling products after bundles are broken.
  • Loading and offloading materials.
  • Operating warehouse equipment as required.
  • Picking, checking, packing and strapping materials.
  • Conducting general warehouse housekeeping.
  • Maintaining safety standards at all times.
  • Conducting routine safety inspections.
  • Reporting unsafe acts and conditions to management.
  • Following company safety rules and procedures.
  • Scanning material movements and accurately recording stock information in SAP.
  • Assisting with stock cycle counts.
  • Working across all gantries and bays on the site.
  • Ensuring all duties are completed accurately and on time.
  • Storing tubing, sheets, lip-channels and other products correctly to prevent rust and damage.
  • Cleaning rusted or soiled materials when required.
  • Checking and correctly slinging materials being loaded and offloaded.
  • Preparing customer and inter-branch deliveries.
  • Reporting stock shortages and damaged stock before the end of the shift.
  • Packing materials to keep walkways clear and safe.
  • Marking protruding materials with hazard tape.
  • Completing daily crane and forklift checks.
  • Visually inspecting hooks, slings, chains, crane ropes, crane drums, spreader beams and other lifting equipment.
  • Reporting equipment defects immediately.
  • Weighing trucks in and out during night shifts.
  • Strapping and labelling loads during night shifts.
  • Completing truck inspections during night shifts.
  • Delivering materials during night shifts when required.
  • Performing additional warehouse duties as assigned.
